Getting close…
Another week and I’ll be closer to knowing when I will start working. That’s right – WHEN. Not IF.
I put an expression of interest in with a local webdesign company and they got back to me right away and said that they would be after an administration/receptionist person very shortly, since they just moved locations and needed to expand their staff. I went down and met one of the co-owners, whom I spent close to 2 hours with, going through what they were doing and what their plans were for the future of the company. I then forwarded through some of my work that I’ve already done (which they said was a bonus, if I had even basic HTML/CSS knowledge). I hadn’t heard back (given, they had heaps of jobs lined up), so I emailed them yesterday asking if they had any more of an idea of time of when I might start, or when they want me to come down and meet the other co-owner. They’ve asked me to email them again on Friday, at which point they might have more of an idea. I’m getting quite excited – the company seems awesome; their prospect is to have the office similar to that of a ‘Google’ idea, where they have a whole heap of awesome stuff. And the guy I met is really lovely and is open to teach me any coding, etc. that I wish to learn, even while I’m not formally employed there.
So, that’s a basic update in that department. Michael has applied for a couple of jobs through an employment agency, one of which they’re pretty certain that he’ll end up getting an offer for, so that’s another positive thing.
It’s all slowly coming together. Soon, we should be able to be in our own place. A couple of months off the original target, but right now it’s on an ‘ASAP’ basis.
So wish us both luck. We’re all crossing our fingers here.
