Nothing Special (still)…

Monday, 25 May, 2009

I am still not doing anything hugely important. I feel lame for not blogging, but there’s nothing really to write about. Right now, I’m sitting in front of the TV with my laptop, watching The Biggest Loser and talking to Michael. He just got back from the weekend in Melbourne for his mum’s 50th birthday. It was kind of nice to get some time apart, but I’m glad he’s home.

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve been blessed with the job of taking over ‘Graphic Designer’ role for the Tasmanian Pagan Alliance, Inc. newsletter. The original GD, who had been in the role for 10 years, quit due to time and internet restraints, so I put my hand up straight away. I managed to pump out the latest newsletter, which was running late, in under 24 hours, so the State Coordinator and the Editor of the newsletter were really impressed with that – it makes me feel good to know I can contribute even more to this group I’m a part of.

Um so not much else to mention, other than mentioning the new endeavour that Catie and I have undertaken – check that out at Beauty-U. I’m meaning to post more there but the other things I’m doing (housework, Pagan Alliance stuff, etc.) have taken priority. I’ll try to post a couple of vids or blog posts this week.

Starting to feel better

Thursday, 19 February, 2009

Slowly but surely, I’m starting to feel better. It’s been hard, and there’s still a way to go yet, but after talking with many people about it, and getting my feelings out, it’s getting easier to talk about her, to look at pictures of her, to do all that stuff.
Michael has been a huge support – he’s going through the same thing that I am, but is dealing with it, at least on the outside, a whole lot better than I have been, and he’s been there for me each step of the way.

Anyway, onto brighter topics. I went shopping yesterday, since I had two $50 gift cards for Kmart (well, one for $50, one for $43.95 since I spent some of it) and bought:

  • Hot pink eyeliner
  • White eyeliner
  • Maybelline’s Define-A-Lash in Waterproof
  • Blusher/Bronzer
  • Four eyeshadows
  • Eyeshadow palette

I also bought ‘Twilight’ – no, I haven’t read it already, so I’ve been desperately avoiding spoilers online. I’ve done pretty well so far, since I only know that it’s about a chick who meets this guy who’s a vampire. That’s all I know. I started reading it last night, and am up to Chapter 3 (they’re long chapters, aren’t they?!). I’m enjoying it so far, but it’s not ‘must-read’ to me just yet, or something I’d be recommending to people yet. Obviously, because I’m only up to Chapter 3.

Then today, I went out and bought a perfume (just a cheapy that states it’s comparable to Britney Spears’ Curious perfume), cat food, hair mousse, a lip gloss and some choccies and a card for Michael, since I didn’t give him anything for Valentine’s Day. I had Subway for lunch, which was good – nice to have something that tastes healthy.

As for my site, Inspirata hasn’t seen a lot of love really, so I did a little revamping around the place, adding some more subpages, separating stuff out a little more. Happy so far.

Aanndd I need to work on my other sites more. GeekWitch.org has not seen ANY love for a while, which is a shame because I love that site, and TasPagans, don’t even get me started there. I think I jumped into that project with too much hope that it would really take off. If we haven’t got a lot of traffic by the end of March, I reckon I’ll just redirect the URL to the Tas Pagan Alliance site. Make things easier.

Anyway, that’s enough for now.

How I do my eyebrows

Thursday, 5 February, 2009

I posted this at a couple of messageboards that I frequent and thought I’d share it with the world-at-large, so here’s how I generally do my eyebrows.

I just waxed my eyebrows and completely forgot to take photos for a mini-tutorial on how I do them, so I did this with the magic of Photoshop and my “l33t grafix skillz”. but I’ve now simulated what I do without actually waxing :P I wish I’d removed my eye makeup from last night though – oh well.

I buy the small wax strips by Waxaway – I don’t have one with me right now but I’ll guess they’re about 7-8cm long by 2.5-3cm tall – perfect eyebrow size anyway.

I take one of the strips (I can do both my eyebrows with one strip) and hold it against my eyebrow (before I separate the two halves of the strip, obviously).

I then take a Sharpie and trace out the shape underneath my eyebrow. I generally never change the shape of my eyebrow, just tidy them up, so this is easy for me, but whatever shape you want them to be this should work.

Then I remove the strip from against my brow and carefully cut along the line I’ve drawn with the Sharpie. This leaves you with two separate pieces, and since they each separate into two pieces each, this is all you need.

I then pull the halves apart and place the side I drew on (if you use a Sharpie or other permanent marker, you’ll see the black line from the pen on the side you drew on) and place it carefully under my eyebrow, lining it up.

Pull the skin taut at the tail-end of your eyebrow and let ‘er rip (I wasn’t pulling the skin taut in the photo because a] I was holding the camera, and b] I wasn’t actually waxing my brow).

Rinse and repeat with the other side of the bottom piece you’ve cut out – this is symmetrical to the other side.

Then pull the halves apart on the top piece, place the half you drew on above your eyebrow, pull taut at tail-end of eyebrow and rip ‘er off.

Rinse and repeat with other side of the top piece you’ve cut out. Again, this is symmetrical.

You’re done! You can use tweezers between your brows to tidy up the uni-brow area, and that’s it.

Thank you for listening to my presentation.
