It is so amazing how time flies by. I have been so busy at work and taking care of things at home that I just have not had a chance to even get on the computer, let alone type up a blog post. It seems like only yesterday Michael and I made the decision to get married, and now it’s only 9 weeks until the big day! I always scoffed when my mum told me that each year, as you get older, flies by faster than the last, but now I know exactly what she was talking about. Before we know it, it will be 2010 and Michael and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary
Anyway, to update you on what’s happening in terms of the wedding since I last posted about it: -
- My Nan has already made the cake (a fruitcake) and it is now in a container at her house, ready for the fondant.
- My Auntie has accepted the request for her to be our MC at the reception – we just need to sit down and talk with her about exactly what we want her to say – mostly it will be just introducing us as a couple, and inviting people to tell stories or make speeches.
- Guest list was finalised a few weeks ago, and invitations went out a couple of weeks ago. I handmade every invite (and I’ll post a picture below of them) and then had my mum send them out.
- Shoes for both Michael and I have been purchased. Michael’s were relatively easy to find, and cost $160 (down from $400, mind you!). Mine were more difficult to find; we spent a whole weekend looking for them and ended up finding them at Cotton On for $30, so I was pretty impressed! Photo of these below as well.
- Michael’s suit has been purchased in Melbourne, and is being altered to fit. His parents will be picking it up.
- My dress arrived a few weeks back, but since I don’t want Michael to see it, no photos will be posted online yet! It’s beautiful, though. I absolutely love it.
- The reception will be catered by the Catering Class at the High School I attended. We just need to find someone to tend bar and serve the food (and we have a couple people in mind).
So really all that’s left to do is to finalise our ceremony with our celebrant, to make my bouquet and the arrangements for my bridesmaids, and to organise a photographer (we’ve possibly got one lined up).
Everything is coming along great – it’s starting to get really exciting now!
Firstly, I have the flu. Yup, it sucks, and I hate it because it probably means I’ll be taking tomorrow off work – something I definitely do NOT want to do, since I’ve had 6½ days off work already since I started on June 1st. Given, that’s like 6½ days out of 50, but I still feel really bad about it, like I’m giving the wrong impression as to how I feel about my work. I actually do enjoy my job; it’s something different every day, which keeps it interesting, and I normally don’t get this sick this often. We’ll see what happens I guess – no point stressing about it now, since it’ll probably keep me sick if i do.
In other news – the reception venue has been confirmed, and my wedding dress arrived on Thursday. I have tried it on and it’s perfect, but for obvious reasons, pictures of the dress shall not be posted online until after the wedding
sorry to disappoint.
Invitations are half-done – just need to confirm addresses before I post them out – and then that’s about it in terms of the stuff I directly have to do – it’s all up to other people to get their shit together after that
Anyway, just a short update today – I feel too gross to type too much more.
I can’t believe it’s been nearly a month since I last blogged. I bought this shiny new domain and I don’t bloody use it – What the eff?!
So right now I’m in a fair bit of pain. I had all four wisdom teeth removed on Friday afternoon. The surgery itself went without a hitch and without any pain (thank you, numb-juice), but the pain afterwards has been somewhat terrible. Most of the time it’s just a dull ache, which is irritating but tolerable. But every now-and-then I get a sharp pain, particularly on the right side where he had to dig a little deeper to gain access to the teeth, and it’s not pleasant.
And just to make you feel even more sorry for me, here’s a photo:

As you can see, the right side is really swollen bad. The left is quite fine – I can even chew, albeit carefully, on the left side.
But it is getting better; I can feel it healing, and I wonder if my bottom teeth might straighten out a little on their own now that they have room to shift. We’ll see what happens, anyway.
That’s my woe-is-me story this month. In other news, wedding plans are coming along slowly – I will get at least the interstate invites done over the next few days (while I have time off), so people who need to book flights and such are able to with time to spare, and then the others will need to go out once I get more paper for the invites. I also got my ring all paid for, so that’s in safe-keeping now
Cheerio
Our wedding plans are coming along nicely.
There has been a bit of a saga over my dress, so I’m going to explain it all so you can understand how relieved I was last night to find out it was going ahead…
Firstly, I found the dress on eBay, and fell in love with it for its uniqueness. So I sent a message to the seller asking how much it would be and if the skirt part of the dress could be made smaller, to be told that it would be $170 + postage, and the dress’ skirt size is only as large as the hoop worn underneath. So that was awesome.
Then my mum came across another dressmaker, avabridal.com, who sell dresses on their site as well as make custom dresses. I emailed them for a quote on how much it would be for them to make and post the same dress. Their quote was about $50 more, which was fine with me because it was a guaranteed higher quality dress than the eBay seller’s (as they were aware of the quality of the eBay seller’s dresses).
However, we hit a glitch with AvaBridal when they told us that they wouldn’t be able to get the lace overlay of the dress in Hot Pink, and since my colours for the wedding are white, black and hot pink, it was kind of vital that they get it.
I asked if they might be able to dye some lace, or if they could get some in, and that it would be a guaranteed purchase from me if they could. I was told that the lace wouldn’t be able to be dyed, and that they would contact their fabric suppliers and find out if they could get anything in.
In the meantime, I contacted the eBay seller and asked if they were able to get the hot pink lace, because if both sellers couldn’t, then I’d essentially have to pick another dress. I never heard a response from the eBay seller, despite messaging them at least 3 times to ask.
So, much to my relief, I received an email last night from AvaBridal.com stating the following:
Hi Terri,
we can make the dress according to your requirements.
The overlay of the dress we can dye it in hot pink.
We’ll start immediately once payment is received. Dress will be finished and delivered to you in around four weeks after payment is cleared.
If you need the dress urgently, you can also place a rush order for a rush order processing fee of $50. For rush orders, dress will be finished and delivered in two and a half weeks.
If there are any questions or anything we can help, please feel free to contact us at any time.
Best regards,
Ava Bridal support team
This just made me so happy, beyond words. It means I can have my dream dress without too much more hassle (hopefully!). I just need to organise to make payment to them now.
In other planning, we ‘booked’ the venue for the ceremony today. The venue will still be open to the public, but we will have rights to park cars on the grass and such, unlike regular visitors.
And then tomorrow we’re meeting with our celebrant for our first consultation, to discuss what we’ll be doing and how we’ll be doing it, etc. and just get an idea of the process behind a ceremony!
Things left to do:
- Contact my Nan about her making our cake
- Contact my Auntie about MC’ing our reception
- Confirm venue for reception
- Finalise guest list
- Make and post invites out
- Buy shoes (for both of us!)
- Get Michael a suit
- Make my bouquet
- Send email addresses to my sister for Hen’s Day / Hen’s Night planning
So far, so good
